Unlike the WS2812B RGB LED strip, the APA102 RGB LED strip has 2 lines for sending data – a clock pin and a data pin. This means you need two pins, not one, to control the strip. Since the clock and data are separate, you can use any processor speed or type to control these strips. You can use any microcontroller or microprocessor, including Arduino, Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone, Propeller, SparkCore, and any “native” microcontroller/microprocessor to control the strips. Porting the library is easy, and you can send data to the pixels at clock rates up to 32MHz!
Each LED section can be cut. Each LED section can be cut. Just solder to a 0.1″ copper pad and you’re done. To make the strips longer, you can connect them together. A 5V power supply is required to power the strip.
